Anabatic Records
Identity
Anabatic Records, a house music label based out of San Francisco, CA run by dj/producer Worthy. The word anabatic means wind that blows up a steep slope or mountain. I started with a triangular shape to simulate a mountain. To create the icecap look I used a minimal sonic waveform to represent the digital music. For branding the label I created faces inside the mountains to easily identify the digital releases. All of Anabatic Records releases are available for download at www.beatport.com.
Digital Covers
Before Anabatic Records Worthy's label was called Katabatic Records (Meaning downward mountain wind) and as it rapidly grew popular in the dance music community a label in Oakland, CA having a similar name of Katabatik records surfaced and threatened legal action. Worthy made the name change and I designed the new identity and branding concept. Here are a few my favorite digital cover designs from both names.
Video
Miami Lanza music video was a collaboration from myself, Justin Goudreau www.cuthd.com, John McCormack and Justin Niemeyer. Shot on location in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at The Bubble - I.W.A.N. Gallery, this music video captures the convergence of old school break dance with new school parkour-style tricking. Colored and styled to feel the Miami sun and heat from an afternoon session. Miami Lanza's electronic beat-blends and echoing Latina vocal, inspired us to go with a look that's reminiscent of old 8mm Kodak Ektachrom film stock. Our goal was to make it feel like these kids were way ahead of their time and threw-down these moves years ago on an old movie camera and then the footage was dusted off and married to Tom Flynn's new track, Miami Lanza. The Broward Parkour Movement offered up their skills in flip tricks and free-running, while the Indigo Flow Crew was headed by Choreographer BZO. To accomplish this look we had 3 DSLR cameras rolling at all time and let the crew just do what they want and we were on our toes to capture anything. To get some interesting dolly moves we hand-built a 'cine-slider' that allowed us to do some smooth tracking moves. In post production we did some color tweaking using an application called Magic Bullet, this allowed us to balance all 3 cameras color profiles for one distinct look. Miami Lanza was produced by Tom Flynn out of Birmingham, UK taken from the 'Little Havana EP'.
